Luxury Kiwi house a hit on Wall St

A stunning home overlooking Tauranga Bay in Northland has been featured as the "house of the day" in the Wall Street Journal.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home was designed by New Zealand architect Martyn Evans and is made largely of glass and steel.

Owners Hiroshi Hashiguchi, a heart surgeon, and Glory Jasper, a biologist and writer originally from New York, live in Singapore.

The couple contacted Mr Evans in 1999 when they found the property on which the house now stands.

The architect said the shape of the house was inspired by the form of the swallows that lived in the area.

Perspex domes top the home's roof to let in light, and every room faces the ocean and has floor to ceiling windows.

An infinity pool overlooks the ocean.

Other features include a helipad, sound and television projector system, shower room in the master suite and the outdoor spa.

The property is available to rent through its own website.

In the summer, a group of up to six people can rent it for $900 a night.

The property is for sale by negotiation.

Charlie Brendon-Cook, of Luxury Real Estate, said the price expectation was around $3 million.
