North Island: Rain, with possibly heavy falls south of Taranaki, and snow to 800 metres affecting the Desert Road, easing to showers in the afternoon. Gale southwesterlies, easing. South Island: Showers in the west and in Southland, clearing early. Rain elsewhere, with snow to 500 metres, easing to showers and retreating to the east coast in the afternoon.

North Island: Remaining showers clearing in the morning, then mainly fine. Scattered rainnorth of Waikato at night. South Island: Mainly fine with increasing high cloud. Isolated early showers about Banks Peninsula.
