North Island: Rain in Northland, gradually spreading south from afternoon, possibly heavy. However, only scattered falls for Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa. South Island: Mainly fine with morning frosts. Cloud then increasing for most with scattered rain from evening, but remaining dry in Southland and inland Otago.

North Island: Rain with some heavy falls, turning to showers, isolated in the east. South Island: A period of rain, but rain more persistent about the west coast.

Saturday

North Island: Showers, isolated in the east. South Island: Rain with snow to 600 metres in the south, easing in Southland and Otago later.

Chatham Islands

Mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Rain developing later on Friday, possibly heavy, then easing to a few showers on Saturday. Strong southwesterlies easing Thursday. Strong or gale northeasterlies developing late Friday, turning northwesterly Saturday morning.
