Situation:

The northerly flow over the country strengthens today, ahead of a complex trough approaching from the Tasman Sea. The trough moves over the country during today and early Sunday, followed by a southwest flow and brief ridge. Another complex trough in the Tasman Sea moves onto central New Zealand from late Monday.

Saturday: Northerly 10 knots, rising to 15 knots this morning. Becoming northwest 20 knots gusting 30 knots this afternoon, changing southwest 15 knots this evening. Sea becoming moderate for a time afternoon and evening. Fair visibility in a few showers, mainly with southwest change. Northeast swell rising to a metre for a time.

Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Becoming northeast 10 knots in the morning, easing to variable 5 knots in the evening. A few early showers, then becoming fine.
