China's Wang Nan became only the second player to win three world titles in succession when she beat compatriot and doubles partner Zhang Yining at the world table tennis championships in Paris yesterday.
Wang, world ranked No 2, won 4-3 against the current No 1, a winner of two World Cups. The victory allowed her to emulate compatriot Deng Yaping, world champion in 1991, 1995 and 1997.
In the men's doubles, Wang Liquin and Yan Sen of China beat compatriots Wang Hao and Kong Linghui 4-2.
