Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, has been chosen as the site of the 2006 United States Open championship. The tournament will be played from June 15 to 18.
Winged Foot has hosted four previous US Opens, in 1929 (won by Bobby Jones), 1959 (Billy Casper), 1974 (Hale Irwin)and 1984 (Fuzzy Zoeller).
The most recent major championship held at Winged Foot was the 1997 PGA championship, won by Davis Love III.
Before 2006, the Open will be played in 2002 at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York; in 2003 at Olympia Fields (Illinois); in 2004 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club (Southampton, New York); and in 2005 at Pinehurst (North Carolina).
