The days are shorter and the next public holiday is months away. It's definitely the time of year where you find yourself yearning for a short break.
However, most of us will slog through that yearning, as our busy lives prevent us from taking action. According to new research commissionedby Choice Hotels Asia-Pac, 81 per cent of Kiwis would like to take more short breaks, but are just "too busy".
It's a common stereotype that millennials love to travel - whether that's at the expense of first-home deposits or not is another story - and it seems that there might be a good reason for that. The research found that 75 per cent of millennials suffered from some level of stress - compared with 68 per cent of Generation Xers and 52 per cent of baby boomers.

Taking a quick holiday to escape that stress makes sense - 66 per cent of millennials said they felt happier after a short break.
"Short breaks (1-3 nights) are easier to plan than longer holidays, they restore a sense of balance in our lives and we feel revitalised upon our return," said Choice Hotels Asia-Pac CEO, Trent Fraser. "A third of respondents surveyed also said they felt a closer connection to their families after taking a short break, which is an incredible reward for minimal effort."
