KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - Steve Menzies has finally reached an agreement with Manly that will keep the champion utility at the Sea Eagles until the end of the 2008 NRL season.
Menzies yesterday ended months of speculation about his playing future when he signed a one-year deal with the 2007 grand finalists.
The Sea Eagles put contract talks on hold during the final series but are delighted that the veteran try scorer will complete his career where it began.
Chief executive Grant Mayer said it was fitting that one of league's great players would celebrate his final season in the game's 100th season.
"Steve Menzies is admired by fans of all clubs and is a treasure at Manly," Mayer said. "On and off the field, he sets a standard for others and, although he is turning 34 in December, we have no doubts he will continue as one of our best next season.
"He wants to play and we want him to play - the club will ensure his magnificent career is celebrated in style and planning is well under way for some milestone events."
Menzies made his NRL debut with Manly in 1993 against Brisbane at Brookvale Oval.
He has played a club-record 322 games for Manly and scored a club-record 167 tries.
He played 20 State of Origin matches for New South Wales and 15 tests for Australia.
Menzies said there was never any doubt about him playing another season with the Sea Eagles.
"I have enjoyed the 2007 season and will savour every game I have left knowing next season will be my last," he said. "I'm proud to have played my entire career with the club I have been passionate about since my late grandpop first took me to Brookvale Oval."
