Tindall bouncer drops name suppression bid

Queenstown bouncer Jonathan Dixon has given up a bid to keep his name secret.

Dixon appeared in Queenstown District Court today charged with wounding with reckless disregard, and causing grievous bodily harm, following an incident at a Queenstown bar that left a young man in a coma.

Newstalk ZB reported that duty solicitor Sonia Vidal had asked judge Michael Turner for an application for interim name suppression so that her client could do some damage control and get a fair trial but later withdrew the request.

Judge Turner said Dixon's name was already out there and even he had seen it on the internet over the weekend.

Dixon 40, was arrested on Friday and charged with wounding with reckless disregard causing grievous bodily harm to Jordan Sinke at a Queenstown bar.

Dixon was also charged with assaulting a friend of Mr Sinke, also at the bar.

Police said Mr Sinke was struck and rendered unconscious after an ``altercation'' with a man at the Sub Culture nightclub about 3am.

At Dunedin Hospital, surgeons had to remove a bone flap to ease brain swelling and Mr Sinke was kept in an induced coma.

Dixon hit the headlines around the world after he released CCTV footage of England rugby captain Mike Tindall embracing ex-girlfriend Jessica Palmer on a night out in Queenstown with teammates during the Rugby World Cup.

The player had married the Queen's granddaughter Zara Phillips only six weeks before.

Dixon was fired from his job and charged with accessing a computer system and dishonestly obtaining video surveillance footage.

He has denied the charge.
