Homeowners in Hamilton East have been targeted by thieves who steal bank cards and then ring the owners to find out PIN numbers. The thefts frequently occur while the householder is outside in the garden.
The offenders ring, saying they are bank officers and the cards have been found stuffed into ATM machines. Once they have the numbers, the thieves drain the bank accounts.
Police advise that if people are working in the back yard they should keep the front door locked, and vice versa. Keep bags and wallets out of sight and never reveal PIN numbers.
If you have been affected by activities of this sort, contact your local police station.
