Beaten man remains in coma

A man found beaten outside a house in Ngongotaha, north-west of Rotorua, is still in a coma at Rotorua Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

The man was found at 12.40am on Friday. He was badly beaten and was rushed to hospital where he was placed on a ventilator.

Although the man is now breathing without the ventilator he remains in a coma.

Police do not believe weapons were used in the attack.

"We are still seeking witnesses in the area. We have spoken to a couple of people who were at the house at the time and they are helping us with our inquiries," Detective John Hope said.

"We are calling on people who know this man to come forward and offer information."
