Dad fined for singing 90s hit song too loudly in his car

A Canadian man's decision to belt out a 1990s dance hit while inside his car has landed him a $149 ticket for being too loud in public.

But Taoufik Moalla said on Monday he would fight the ticket and denies his singing was as deafening as authorities claim.

Mr Moalla said he was happily singing along with the windows mostly rolled up to C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)," which neared the top of the Billboard chart in 1991, when he was stopped.

He said he initially thought Montreal police wanted him to move out of their way, the Telegraph reported.

The officers then asked him for identification and whether he had been screaming.

"I said, 'No, I was singing,'" Mr Moalla told the Montreal Gazette.

"I was singing the refrain 'Everybody Dance Now,' but it wasn't loud enough to disturb anyone."

One of the officers walked away and returned with the fine for screaming in a public place.

Mr Moalla told CTV News that he was shocked by the punishment and did not think his singing warranted a fine.

"I understand if they are doing their job, they are allowed to check if everything's okay, if I kidnapped someone or if there's danger inside, but I would never expect they would give me a ticket for that," he told CTV.
