Police investigating the disappearance of Peter Falconio have renewed investigations into an earlier incident in which British tourists were threatened by a man in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Police said the incident in Queensland happened two weeks before Falconio was ambushed and apparently murdered north of Alice Springs on July 14 last year.
Northern Territory Assistant Police Commissioner John Daulby said the investigation into the Queensland incident was renewed after a review of the Falconio investigation.
Two British women and a man had been travelling in a van along the Flinders Highway towards Hughenden in Queensland when they were twice overtaken by a man in a 4WD similar to the vehicle described by Falconio's girlfriend, Joanne Lees.
The man made a hand gesture of putting a gun to his head.
