Watch: Kiwi surfer Elliot Paerata Reid takes on notorious Greymouth bar

The Greymouth Bar has been the site of a number of fatalities, but that didn't seem to faze Elliot Paerata Reid.

On a hunt for waves in stormy weather, the notorious bar offered up sections the Piha surfer couldn't turn down.

Paerata Reid hunted the wave, driving seven hours from Queenstown before finding the battering swell he was looking for.

Being a Piha local, it's nothing he hadn't seen before, but it was one of those days when no one's out and no one's going out. Alone in the lineup, Paerata Reid went to work.
