Rugby League: Craig Smith to appeal ban

St George Illawarra intend appealing Craig Smith's six-game ban which effectively ended his NRL career last night. The Kiwi prop was found guilty of striking Brisbane five-eighth Kevin Walters, fracturing an eye socket and breaking his nose.

Smith, who is expected to join Wigan this week, is sidelined until the grand final, and it is unlikely the Dragons will get that far.
