Defending Olympic basketball champions the United States have called up Elton Brand of the LA Clippers, Richard Jefferson of New Jersey and Kansas University's Nick Collison to complete the squad of 12 to compete in the qualifying tournament for next year's games in Athens.
The three will join Kobe Bryant
(LA Lakers), Allen Iverson (Philadelphia), Jermaine O'Neal (Indiana), Tim Duncan (San Antonio), Tracy McGrady (Orlando), Jason Kidd (New Jersey), Ray Allen (Milwaukee), Mike Bibby (Sacramento) and Karl Malone (Utah).
The US have been gold medallists in 12 of the 14 Olympics in which basketball has been played, including the last three, when NBA players took part.
They will be among 10 countries from North, South and Central America attempting to secure one of three spots for the games at the qualifying tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from August 20 to August 31.
Former Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown will be in charge of the team.
