Claudia Riegler was 17th part-way through the first run in the women's slalom at the Winter Olympic Games today.
Riegler completed the run in 55.17 seconds, to trail early leader and gold medal winner in the combined event, Janica Kostelic of Croatia by 3.03sec.
Riegler overcame her low draw of 32 to push herself into a competitive position, after recording the eighth fastest time over the first half of the run.
A number of high-profile skiers failed to finish the run, including United States hope Kristina Koznick and Australia's Zali Steggall.
The first run is continuing.
