Aucklander John Coutts has gone into the lead at the 28th world gliding championships in Lezno, Poland.
Coutts, ranked 12th in the world, heads the highly competitive 15m gliding class with a score of 3373 in a field of 41 competitors from 31 nations. Immediately behind him are Michael Grund of Germany and David Watt of Britain.
Coutts' team-mate, Ben Flewett, flying in the standard class, managed a respectable fourth place on yesterday's fourth day of racing.
