Fan dresses in speedo to BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards event saw sport stars dressed to the nines - until Mick Cullen arrived on the scene wearing only a speedo.

Cullen - better known as Speedo Mick - was invited to attend the BBC SPOTY awards and to feature as part of a film used at the event.

The Everton super fan became popular on social media after he was posted wearing only his speedos to Everton football matches in a bid to raise money for charity.

In light of his influence, the BBC invited Cullen to attend the ceremony in Liverpool clearly outlining that he wouldn't be allowed to wear his iconic outfit to the prestigious event.

But Cullen quickly posted a video on twitter ironing his 'speedo tux' and said, "you only live once so make it count".

Speedo Mick was quick to steal the show both during the ceremony and on the red carpet with all eyes locked on his controversial attire.

When asked if it was what he wore all year around, he replied, "pretty much, yea, pretty much".

In the last three years Cullen has raised more than NZ$160 thousand for various charities from his made semi-naked appearances.
