Discus: Queen B in fine form

Defending Commonwealth Games discus champion Beatrice Faumuina started her campaign towards the Manchester games in style over the weekend with success in the IAAF Grand Prix meet in Portland, Oregon.

She threw an impressive 63.51m in her first competition since the Australian Championships over a month ago.

This bettered the meet record and earned her eight points in the IAAF Grand Prix standings.

At the same meeting young Auckland athlete Adrian Blincoe ran three minutes 59.90 seconds in the men's mile to place ninth.
