A British bulldog puppy has been returned to its family after it was stolen from the back of a vehicle in Masterton.
Charlee the bulldog was stolen from the vehicle while it was parked outside Farriers Restaurant yesterday evening.
A post about the theft on Facebook was shared hundreds of times.
Today police confirmed the puppy had been returned to its family.
The owner, who remained unnamed, told the Dominion Post the thief tried to sell Charlee to someone who had already seen the Facebook post about her.
"The person they tried to sell it to had seen the post on Facebook and told them to give them the dog and go home," the owner said.
A police spokeswoman said no charges have been laid yet.
