A private investigator's five-month probe into claims of Fire Service staff sleeping on the job and going home early has cost the service about $80,000.
The investigation into Auckland's northern communications centre was prompted in March by an employee filing an affidavit claiming her supervisor allowed staff to sleep on duty,
run personal errands and go home early.
Professional Firefighters' Union president Mike McEnaney has previously criticised both the cost and the substance of the investigation, saying the work practices being examined were common in other emergency 111 communications centres, including Wellington.
The union is representing the staff under investigation.
National communication centres manager Steve Turek refused to detail the report's findings.
He had passed it on to the supervisor at the centre of the investigation and was awaiting a response. Once this was received he would decide whether to take disciplinary action.
