A complete picture of a Martinborough park development is starting to emerge, with the final design plans to be decided this week.
Plans for Martinborough's Centennial and Considine Park were available for public consultation from May 20 to June 20, attracting 15 submissions from community groups and members of the public.
Several
amendments have been considered by the Martinborough Community Board and the final plans will be put to South Wairarapa District Council on Wednesday.
Martinborough Community Board chairwoman Pam Colenso said the parks had been "under-utilised" for some time.
"The parks are going to have more of a visibility from the public's point of view and they are going to be more user-friendly.
"The end result is going to be to make a park which is more acceptable for everyone in South Wairarapa."
Included in the recommendations are the scrapping of plans to plant plane trees along Princess St, with oaks to be planted instead.
The distance between the trees will also increase from 12m to 15m.
The development is hoped to improve the links between the two parks - which include a pony paddock - by installing a walkway loop track together with outdoor gym equipment.
As part of the work the concrete swimming pool block will be screened off, more trees planted and others removed, and all fences will be replaced.
Several seats and picnic tables will also be installed.
The council will consider the plans before voting at their meeting which starts at 9.30am on Wednesday.
