Man charged after assault outside Flaxmere school

A woman was allegedly indecently assaulted outside a Flaxmere school this morning, police say.

Police were called to Flaxmere Primary School in Whitby Cres about 8am today.

A man was arrested a short time after.

Flaxmere Primary School Principal Robyn Isaacson confirmed that no school children had witnessed the incident.

"No children witnessed it at all. It was caught on camera and there were no children in the area," she said.​

Ms Isaacson said she didn't have any concerns about the school children's safety.

"I'm happy with how it's being resolved by police," Ms Isaacson said.​

It is believed police viewed security footage filmed by the school before an arrest was made.

Two people on the school grounds spoken to by Hawke's Bay Today confirmed there had been police activity in the area but would not comment further.

A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted sexual violation and will be appearing in Hastings District Court on Monday December 12th.

Police said as the matter is now before the courts they cannot comment further.
