The recently dubbed high-tech capital of New Zealand, Wellington, is hosting free coding courses at libraries around the region this week to promote coding in schools.
The programme is aimed at children aged 12 to 18 and teaches the basics of HTML and CSS.
Wellington is home to a number of high tech firms, including Xero, whose chief executive, Rod Drury, is encouraging interest in the tech sector.
"It's important to get young kids involved in fun programmes that stimulate their interest and promote technology careers," Drury said.
"There is so much opportunity globally for a career in technology - the opportunities are countless and it's an exciting and fun industry to be a part of."
