LETTER: Jasper's story

I read your article about the boy with Aspergers and the struggle his family has been having with getting support and help. I thought you were doing a story on my family!
My wife Jo and I have a 13-year-old boy named Leo who has Aspergers and we have experienced the same kind of hassles as Dave and Adele Kane.
Leo has spent most of the past year away from school and in and out of hospital, and incidents of self-harm. Despite all this we have struggled for any real help or assistance with mental health services, the Ministry of Education and Taikura all passing the buck and failing to come up with concrete support.
I thought we were alone, but it seems other families with Aspergers kids are in the same boat as well. I am now sure there must be other families out there too.
