Truck crashes through home killing two in NSW

Two people are dead and seven are in hospital after a truck ploughed into a home on the NSW mid north coast.

The B-double truck collided with a ute on the Pacific Highway at Urunga, south of Coffs Harbour, before hurtling off the road and smashing into the house at about 5am (AEDT) on Sunday.

The driver of the ute, aged in his 20s, and an 11-year-old boy sleeping in his bedroom were killed.

The boy's family were trapped in the house for some time, police said.

His 14-year-old brother, who also asleep in the house when the crash occurred, was treated by paramedics for minor lower leg lacerations and a painful wrist.

He is in a stable condition in Coffs Harbour Base Hospital.

Four people in the house next door suffered minor limb injuries. They were also taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, where they are in a stable condition.

A 31-year-old male passenger in the truck suffered a head injury along with spinal and limb injuries. The truck's driver, a 40-year-old man, was treated for chest and limb injuries.

They were also taken to hospital and are in a serious condition.

The accident, which happened on a notorious stretch of the Pacific Highway that has a history of bad accidents, has blocked traffic in both directions.

Northbound heavy vehicles are advised to use the Oxley Highway through Long Flat and Bendemeer, the New England Highway through Armidale and Glen Innes, the Gwydir Highway through Jackadgery and rejoin the Pacific Highway at Grafton.

Southbound heavy vehicles are advised to use the Gwydir Highway through Jackadgery and Glen Innes, the New England Highway through Armidale and Bendemeer, the Oxley Highway through Walcha and Long Flat and rejoin the Pacific Highway at Wauchope.

Police advise light traffic is being diverted via Hungry Head as it appears the highway will be closed for some hours.
