Time to say goodbye to the joy of Irish prison

The Irish Government is planning to close Ireland's largest and most antiquated jail, Mountjoy Prison in the heart of Dublin.

Known derisively as "The Joy", the prison has no in-cell plumbing or communal areas. Prisoners use toilet buckets and have to take their meals back to their cells.

Mountjoy also suffers from overcrowding and a violent drug trade. Last week a convicted drug dealer was found stabbed to death inside his cell.
