A student who sparked a royal assassination scare when he shot a starter pistol at Prince Charles during his last visit to Australia 11 years ago is now working as a barrister in Sydney, a newspaper reported yesterday.
Memories of the January 1994 shooting incident, in which David Kang fired two blank rounds from the pistol and stormed a Sydney stage where the Prince was delivering a speech, have been revived by the announcement that Prince Charles will visit Australia this month.
Kang, the son of a Korean Air Force pilot, said after he was wrestled to the ground close to a shocked Prince Charles that he was protesting against the treatment of Cambodian refugees.
