Remains of a legendary city supposedly swallowed up by the sea about 2000 years ago have been found off the coast of India.
A joint expedition of 25 divers from the Scientific Exploration Society and India's National Institute of Oceanography discovered the ruins up to 1.5km off the coast of Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu.
Structures that appear to be man-made were found at depths of 5-7m.
Local legend tells of a great city containing seven temples, so beautiful that the jealous gods sent a flood to engulf it.
Author and expedition member Graham Hancock, who has spent 10 years investigating early civilisations, said he was convinced the ruins were the legendary city.
