Banana's great source of instant energy

Australian scientists have discovered what sportsmen and women have known for years: bananas are a great source of instant energy.

A Government-funded study is investigating harnessing bananas to provide energy for 500 homes.

"It's not a hoax," said Australian Banana Growers' Council chief executive Tony Heidrich.

Bananas would be combined with bacteria to produce methane which would be piped to a turbine and plugged into the electricity grid.
