7. A truck bomb has killed 47 police recruits at a Libyan police training centre at Zliten. The attack happened while about 400 recruits were gathering.
8. Four people have been arrested in India over an international kidney-selling racket. A 22-year-old student allegedly sold his own kidney for US$7500 and then became an agent for others. Police say he persuaded 15 others to sell kidneys with operations taking place in Sri Lanka. Recipients were charged 2.7 million rupees.
9. An OECD report says that a third of Australian pensioners are living below the poverty line. Out of 34 countries, Australia came second last on social equity. Its 36 per cent figure for pensioners in poverty compared with an OECD average of 12.6 per cent.
