Calendar's farm mums

If you are looking for a Christmas gift that is uniquely Taranaki, then Barbara Bisley might just have a deal for you!

Barbara is a member of Farming Mums NZ, a Facebook-based online discussion group where farming mums can share all sorts, from recipes to questions, concerns to jokes with others who share the common ground of farming life.

There are more than 5500 members of the group, and many of them have had direct or indirect experience of the impact depression can have on farming families.

"We wanted to do something to help rural families who are struggling and this is the end result," says Barbara. She is talking about a calendar some of the Taranaki-based members have produced.

"We wanted to show that we love what we do, we love our rural life, but that doesn't mean we are always in gumboots and overalls. We can still be glamorous and girlie, and most of all, we can always have fun."

Barbara says organising the calendar was a new experience, "but we had a lot of laughs, and we went to some absolutely lovely places for the photos".

All photographs in the calendar were taken by Chasing Light, a Hawera-based photography firm owned by Roxy Pritchard.

"Not only was Roxy great to work with, but she very generously gave us her services free of charge, helping us to support a great cause."

That great cause is the Taranaki Rural Support Trust, which will receive all profits from sales of the $15 calendars.

"We wanted to raise money for something that will directly benefit the rural sector, and the Taranaki Rural Support Trust does great work in our communities. We are delighted to be able to help them make a difference to farming families around Taranaki".
