Victoria beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in a one-day cricket match at Melbourne's Central Reserve yesterday.

Sri Lanka 120 in 33.1 overs, Victoria 121-3 in 24.2 overs.

NORTH ISLAND U15
(Rotorua)

Auckland leapt to the lead in the North Island Under 15 tournament when they took an outright victory from Central Districts on day four. Only a Northern Districts outright win can prevent Auckland getting their hands on the trophy tomorrow.

Central Districts gave a much improved batting performance in their second turn at the wicket after being dismissed for just 50 on the first day. The follow-on produced 223 with Ben Smith 52 and Callum Coker 52 leading the way for CD. Daniel Ter-Braak added four wickets to the three he grabbed in round one. Auckland lost three wickets on the way to taking the outright victory with Jimmy Neesham in superb touch with a sparkling 63 while Michael Barry added 23 not out.

The Wellington-Northern Districts clash resulted in a points decision to the host side. ND resumed at 102 for 1 and Brett Sorrenson carried on to post 69 and Daryl Mitchell was also in good form to make 68. ND declared at 226/9. Wellington got through to 198/5 at stumps. Tom Blundell was undefeated on 78 with Russell Pepperell 50 not out. Rory Darkins took four of the five Wellington wickets.

Auckland 177 and 97-3 (J. Neesham 63, M. Barry 23no) bt Central Districts 50 and 223 (B Smith 52, C Coker 42; D Ter-Braak 4-52, M Barry 2-17, J Neesham 2-58) outright.

Kawerau golfer Zoe Beth Brake led the New Zealand challenge after the first round of the Australian junior championships in Melbourne yesterday.

Brake shot a round of four-over-par 76 to share 18th place at the Southern Golf Club in Melbourne. She was ninth among the under-16 players in the tournament.

Her teammate Larissa Eruera, 13, of Auckland club Aviation, was a shot back in 22nd overall, but led the under-14 division.

Pakuranga's Dasom Lee shot 78, a shot ahead of Nelson's Lisa Wright, with Monica Tulisi, of Christchurch, managing 82.
