Waterpolo: NZ under 17s draw in final test against US

New Zealand under-17 women's waterpolo team drew 6-6 with their United States counterparts at North Shore's Millennium Pool today, having shown gradual improvement over a three-test series.

Goals by Lynlee Smith and Tui Dunlop and two by Lisa van Raalte sent the New Zealanders out to a quick 4-1 lead, but the well-disciplined US side clawed their way back.

Melissa Wheeler scored two goals and one by Tanya Gandy had the US at an equal 4-4 by the break.

The physical game was more restrained with only five exclusions in the final half, although the US held the upper hand with the score at 6-5 until the final minute when Kelly Mason equalised.

New Zealand lost the first test 9-5 and second 8-7.
