Tennis: Qualifier upsets Ivanisevic in Qatar

Radek Stepanek, a qualifier from the Czech Republic, pulled off a major upset in the second round of the $US1 million ($2.43 million) Qatar Open tennis tournament, beating second seed Goran Ivanisevic, of Croatia, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

"I waited for Goran to make mistakes, which he did," Stepanek said. "I played my natural game. I am very happy to have made it to the quarter-finals."

Top seed Yevgeny Kafelnikov, of Russia, survived a scare before beating compatriot Nikolay Davydenko in three sets, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4.
