Tennis: Corretja wins Dutch Open

AMSTERDAM – Second seed Alex Corretja of Spain won the $US400,000 ($NZ990,344) Energis Open tennis tournament this morning, beating Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco 6-3 5-7 7-6 3-6 6-4.

It was Corretja's first tournament win of the year. El Aynaoui won the title in 1999.

After the five-set marathon, Corretja was unable to extend his winning run to his doubles match.

Top seeds and local favourites Paul Haarhuis and Sjeng Schalken beat Corretja and partner Luis Lobo 6-4 6-2.
