Soccer: Fifa media director sacked

Fifa media director Keith Cooper has been sacked less than two weeks after the end of soccer's World Cup finals.

Cooper found out he had been dismissed in a two-minute conversation with acting secretary-general Urs Linsi and given 24 hours to clear his desk.

Insiders claim it is part of president Sepp Blatter's plan to get rid of anyone who did not give him 100 per cent support.

No reason was given for his dismissal. Markus Siegler, Blatter's personal spokesman, has been appointed acting head of communications.

A former sports journalist, Cooper had been head of communications at Fifa since 1995.
