Soccer: Fifa give sport court final jurisdiction




Fifa have reached an agreement with the Court of Arbitration for Sport to give the independent Lausanne-based body final jurisdiction over legal matters in world soccer.

The court will resolve disputes over the status of players, but will not judge on any matters concerning the interpretation of the rules of soccer arising from matches.

"[The agreement] is a significant step towards resolving the regrettable proliferation of disputes in the world of football," Fifa president Sepp Blatter said.

The court was founded in 1984 and is financed by the International Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Federations and the Association of National Olympic Committees. It has dealt with 80 cases of arbitration this year.
