Broncos 24 Bulldogs 25
KEY POINTS:
BRISBANE - Bulldogs halfback Brent Sherwin turned the knife on Brisbane's National Rugby League finals ambitions with a field goal to lead his side to a 25-24 victory at Suncorp Stadium here on Friday.
The clash see-sawed for the entire 80 minutes before Sherwin nailed an ice-cool 33m field goal with three minutes remaining to decide the match.
Brisbane had levelled the scores 24-all with a benefit of the doubt try to teenage forward Dave Taylor in the 69th minute.
Sherwin had missed a snap at field goal a few minutes earlier.
The loss was tough on the Broncos who were gallant in defeat again with several stars out injured.
The game was locked at 12-all at halftime.
Bulldogs five-eighth and Kiwis international Ben Roberts scored a double, including a solo effort in the 59th minute that levelled the scored at 18-all.
Boom Brisbane teenager Dave Taylor also scored two tries and matched much-vaunted rival Sonny Bill Williams' power game.
The match was action packed from the kick off and packed with exciting attack and some shuddering defence.
Broncos forward Brad Thorn was named man-of-the-match.
