Motorsport: Sainz drops to fourth after penalty

Sainz penalised Spaniard Carlos Sainz was penalised one minute for making an early time-control entry after the 19th stage and dropped to fourth overall at the Rally of Argentina yesterday.

Sainz, who finished the day third after making up ground on the 20th and final stage, had extended his lead to 32.3s over Ford's Estonian driver Markko Martin after he won the 9.5km 19th stage, but was then penalised when he entered the time-control area one minute earlier than allowed.

The time penalty gave Martin a 15.2s lead over world champion Marcus Gronholm at the end of the day.

Britain's Richard Burns in a Peugeot was fourth, a further 3.3s back.
