Murphy's Law almost struck again, but this time Lady Luck was on my side.
We had been in with a chance of winning the last three rounds of the V8 Supercar rounds with my Kmart Commodore in Queensland, at Bathurst and on the Gold Coast but for a very
well-known five-minute penalty at Bathurst or other reasons the end results weren't what we wanted.
Yesterday a steel spike looked as though it might have been the latest excuse but, as luck would have it, things fell my way and we were able to again win the Boost Mobile V8 International at Pukekohe.
Race three was the strangest race I had ever been involved in.
Just when I felt comfortable and thought we might have the round win in the bag, the spike reared its head, deflating not only my front left tyre but also me.
And just when everyone else on the team and I thought all hope was gone, a few things fell our way with rivals falling out and safety cars appearing on the track and we were able to secure enough points to claim the win.
I thought last year's victory was great, but this one was even better with the highs and lows adding to the emotion - further enhanced by the tremendous support I received again from my hometown Pukekohe crowd.
Also adding to the magic was my teammate Todd Kelly's second place finish, the "Toddler" standing alongside me on the podium for Kmart Racing's first ever 1-2 finish. It felt great.
Our 1-2 result together with my and Todd's wins in races two and three were just reward for the efforts put in by the tight team who have risen to the occasion on both visits to Pukekohe and know how special a hometown victory is for me.
It was a fairytale end to the weekend for me, repeating the success we had last year.
I just couldn't have asked for any more.
