Hockey: Dutch triumph in European Nations Cup

The Netherlands won the women's European Nations Cup yesterday with a comprehensive 5-0 defeat of Spain in the final of the hockey tournament in Barcelona.

Captain Mijntje Donners led by example throughout, beginning the rout with an early goal from a fierce close-range shot after just four minutes and added a second. Other goals came from Kim Lammers, Ageeth Boomgaardt and Miek van Geenhuizen.

The Dutch women won every match on the way to the final and conceded just three goals in the tournament.

Germany claimed the bronze medal, beating Britain 3-1.
