Golf: Tiger makes the cut - with little to spare

Much to the relief of the organisers, Tiger Woods has made the cut at the New Zealand Golf Open at Paraparaumu Beach.

The world number one shot a two over par 73 to go with his 70 yesterday to finish one over the card.

The cut is two over.

Notable names to miss out on playing in the weekend were defending champion David Smail and past winners Sir Bob Charles and Greg Turner.

Australian's James McLean and Stephen Leaney are the overnight leaders on seven under par.

The best New Zealander is Steve Alker one shot behind the leaders, while Michael Campbell is three under the card.

There are 15 players within three shots of the lead.

The first players tee off at 9.30 tomorrow morning.
