A Hamilton golf course has been sold for more than $3 million to a Korean businessman who intends turning it into a golf academy.
The future for Park International Country Club's more than 300 members remains uncertain as a result of the sale.
The new owner, Auckland-based Charlie Choi, takes over the
property on March 1 next year.
Club president Ken Graham said members were "in the dark" about the future.
"We're all up in the air really."
A golf course was first established on the site 30 years ago. Formerly known as Westlands, it underwent a name change more than 10 years ago when Japanese businessman Kenichi Kobayashi bought it.
"He's put a lot of money into the course," Graham said.
Club general manager Cliff Dickeson said Choi intended to upgrade the course.
Choi will be the second Korean businessman to establish an academy in the Waikato.
Earlier this year Harry Han completed the Hamilton Golf Academy in Borman Rd, north of Hamilton. He wants to attract Koreans to New Zealand to learn the game and study.
