Wellington's Brad Iles has taken a two shot lead after the first round of strokeplay at the Australian amateur golf championships in Adelaide.
The New Zealand representative shot a five-under par 66 on the seaside Glenelg course yesterday to hold a two shot lead over local player Peter Cooke, with a
further shot back to a trio of players including Rotorua's Jae An.
Iles -- runner-up in the Australian amateur champs last year -- An, and most of the New Zealanders competed at Glenelg yesterday and will face the tougher test at Royal Adelaide today.
All players battled windy conditions yesterday, with Iles in supreme form.
There are four New Zealanders in the top 14 players, with Hawke's Bay's Doug Holloway and Auckland's Kevin Chun in a group of eight players after an even-par 71.
The field is cut after 36 holes for the final two rounds, before the leading 32 players move on to contest matchplay for the championship.
