The Alternative Cricket Commentary will warm up for summer by leading the call on the Radio Hauraki World Series of Kiwipong this weekend.
This year's event, held at the Auckland Town Hall, will host 600 competitors to make it the largest of its kind in Australasia. Winners will also take home $10,000, the prize one of the largest in amateur sport in New Zealand.
Entries to the event opened in August and were filled within two weeks with over 120 teams on the back list. There are plans to double the size of the competition next year to accommodate more competitors.
Teams will compete in pool play. The winners from each pool advance to the top 64 knock out rounds where they also face last year's winners - 'Let's Get Topical' - together with winners from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch events.
Unlike traditional Beerpong, cups are filled with water. The focus is all about the sport and while teams may enjoy a quiet wakachangi between rounds that is it in terms of drinking.
