Boxing: Hasim Rahman accused of money laundering

World heavyweight boxing champion Hasim Rahman has been accused of helping to launder $US37,000 ($87,600) for a cousin, who was later jailed for drug trafficking, the Baltimore Sun said.

Citing federal authorities, the newspaper said the allegations came to light in a sworn statement by US Customs Service investigators seeking to seize an investment account belonging to Rahman's cousin.

Rahman has refused to comment on the allegations.

His cousin, William Fryson jun, 28, has been in jail for more than three years. He was sentenced to 17 years and five months after pleading guilty to money laundering, drug conspiracy and tax evasion charges in May 1998.
