Welding blast victim dies

A man has died in hospital after being badly burned in an explosion near Palmerston North last month. Roy Hall, aged 58, was the only person working in Triple R Engineering's welding shop at the time.

Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the September 20 accident, which is understood to have occurred while Mr Hall was working on a tank he thought had previously contained diesel.

At the time of the accident, Triple R Engineering director Dave Gibbs said the company believed it was safe to do the work.
