Basketball New Zealand has named the talented young athletes that will attend their Under 15 and Under 17 National Team Selection Camps, to be held at the Pulman Park in South Auckland over the Labour Day weekend, 20-22 October.

This is the third and final 2018 camp for Basketball New Zealands annual junior national teams. Under Basketball New Zealands new High Performance structure, there are three national junior-team camps held throughout the year: in February during Waitangi Day weekend, during the April School holidays, and a camp in October during the Labour Day weekend. Basketball New Zealands High Performance Director, Leonard King, says this new structure brings together some of New Zealands best young talent.

"For our Under 15 national squad members, this is the final selection camp for the team that will travel to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea to compete in the FIBA Oceania Championships in December this year. We will select a team of 12 boys and 12 girls to represent New Zealand at that event. The top two placed teams will qualify for next years Under 16 Asian Championships.

"For the athletes selected to attend the Under 17 Camp, this is their first activity in preparation for next years FIBA Oceania Championships, which will be held in Noumea New Caledonia in August 2019.

"We are extremely excited about the talent levels in both of these groups as we seek to win our second Gold medal at the Oceania Championships," said King today.
