A rabbit shooter in farmland north of Wellington sparked a security alert this morning after he came too close to the route golfing star Tiger Woods was due to travel.
Security staff patrolling railway lines between Wellington and New Zealand Golf Open host town of Paraparaumu, heard gunshots and saw
a man in the hills above the lines about 8.30 am.
The man was seen above the Kapiti Coast highway between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki, about 11 km south of Paraparaumu where the Open is being held.
Woods, who arrived in Wellington this morning to play in the $1m tournament, was due to drive through the two townships soon afterwards.
But Police late this morning said the man spoken to in connection with the gunshots had been working on pest destruction on private farmland. He had been released.
